Current state
SAP BTP licensing, environments and dates
- BTP has its own commercial models: consumption-based (BTPEA, CPEA, Pay-As-You-Go) or per-service subscription. A global account can add subscriptions but not mix consumption models.
- The Neo environment shuts down on 31 December 2028 and gets no new features; new work goes to Cloud Foundry, Kyma or the ABAP environment.
- For SAP NetWeaver 7.5, the base of PI/PO, mainstream maintenance runs until end-2027 and extended maintenance until end-2030. SAP offers Migration Assessment and tools in Integration Suite.
- In SAP's clean core levels (ABAP extensibility guide, August 2025), CAP, ABAP Cloud and SAP Build extensions on BTP are level A; the model covers Private Edition and on-premise S/4HANA.
Localization
BTP decisions specific to Türkiye
Data residency and KVKK
BTP has no Turkish region, so data processed abroad falls under KVKK Article 9. Its new text applies from 1 June 2024; the old paragraph 1 also applied until 1 Sep 2024.
e-Document integration
SAP DRC for Türkiye sends e-Invoices and e-Dispatch notes to a service provider through Integration Suite; Negzel's own products are the other route. Decide early.
E-InvoiceBDDK hosting rules for banks
Article 25 of the BDDK regulation keeps a bank's primary and secondary systems in Türkiye and, with a cloud provider, that provider's systems and backups too.
From the field
What we find in SAP BTP accounts
- Development and production share a subaccount. With manual transports nobody is sure what runs in production. A directory with DEV, QA and PROD subaccounts, a cTMS route and separate role collections settle this from day one.
- Single sign-on breaks in the last sprint. Cloud Connector and principal propagation are left untested with a real user until the final week. Proving the connectivity and identity flow in the first sprint brings late blockers forward.
- PI/PO interfaces are copied one to one. Moving old mappings unchanged into Integration Suite moves their clutter too. Start with an interface inventory and classification, then redesign the suitable ones around APIs or events.
- Forgotten apps still run on Neo. Neo closes on 31 December 2028. An inventory decides, app by app, whether to move to Cloud Foundry or Kyma, rewrite or retire, and the migration plan is built backwards from that date.

Short answers on SAP BTP
What is SAP BTP, and how is it licensed?
SAP BTP is the SAP cloud platform for application development and automation, integration, data and analytics, and AI, all on a shared platform foundation. It comes with its own commercial models: consumption-based (BTPEA, CPEA, Pay-As-You-Go) or a subscription per service. Some services have a free tier.
How do we choose between Cloud Foundry, Kyma and the ABAP environment?
For CAP applications in Node.js or Java, Cloud Foundry is usually the default. Container and Kubernetes-based microservices fit Kyma. If your team's strength is ABAP, the ABAP environment lets you build with ABAP Cloud and RAP. Several environments can run in the same subaccount.
Does a CAP application run independently of S/4HANA?
It runs in its own runtime with its own lifecycle, so it is updated on its own schedule rather than with S/4HANA releases. Its function still depends on S/4HANA data, which it reaches through released APIs and business events.
Do we have to change our existing SAP system to connect it to BTP?
Not the core, but some preparation is needed: Cloud Connector is installed for on-premise or private cloud systems, the APIs and OData services you need are activated, and sometimes a support package or SAP Note is applied. ECC systems can connect through Cloud Connector as well.
Is our BTP data stored in Türkiye?
No. SAP's list of Cloud Foundry regions has no Turkish region; the European options include Frankfurt (eu10, eu30) and the Netherlands (eu20). If personal data is involved, the KVKK rules on transfers abroad apply, and banks also have to weigh the BDDK requirement to keep systems in Türkiye.
What is SAP Document AI, and which documents does it read?
SAP Document AI, formerly Document Information Extraction, is an SAP BTP service that reads data from documents. Pretrained models for invoices, payment advices and purchase orders come ready; other documents such as delivery notes are defined with a schema or template, and the premium edition can also read them with generative AI. Validate results before critical use.
