SAP S/4HANA for Fashion (FMS) - Fashion and Vertical Business

SAP S/4HANA for Fashion (FMS) runs a fashion company's stores, wholesale business and garment production in the same S/4HANA system. It knows a product by style, colour and size, splits stock into segments such as channel or quality, and shares scarce stock across open orders by rule.

Season and segment rules come first; wholesale contracts and buying commitments open demand and supply, and supply assignment matches them.

Comparison

ARun: real assignment or preview

The same BOP variant runs in normal mode, which saves the assignment, or in preview mode, which only gives an early warning.

  • Normal mode

    Assignment is stored

    • Stock, POs, ASNs and production orders
    • Demand and supply locked during the run
    • ATP and MRP see assigned quantities
    • Deliveries created from ARUNITA
    • Later runs leave assignments alone
  • Preview mode

    Early warning, separate table

    • Planned orders and requisitions count
    • Nothing is locked
    • ATP and MRP ignore the preview
    • No deliveries from a preview

Scope

What we set up for fashion businesses

Current state

From SAP Fashion Management and AFS to S/4HANA

  • SAP AFS has no place in the S/4HANA portfolio; SAP names FMS as the strategic solution for vertical fashion firms. The AFS integration in S/4HANA (WAFS) sits in compatibility scope ID 104.
  • Order Allocation Run is now aATP-based supply assignment, merged with BOP, and transactions such as ARUNWB are gone. FSH_BDBS allocations do not migrate; the run is set up again.
  • For segmentation, aATP supports pool segments only; stock protection built on segments in ERP is done with product allocation (PAL) in S/4HANA. Classic ATP and classic MRP ignore segments.
  • Fashion UI elements come with the RFM_FASHION business function, which has to be activated in every client. MD04P replaces FSH_MD04, and FSH_PWB replaces FSH_SPLITPO.

Localization

Labelling and exports in Türkiye

  • Fibre composition label

Fibre composition must also appear in Turkish on the label and, for online sales, before purchase. Keeping it once in article data keeps labels and web shops in line.

  • Trade documents in wholesale

Between businesses, the composition may be given in the trade documents that travel with the goods, with fibre names written in full. The dispatch note should carry it.

    E-Dispatch Note
  • Export file

In wholesale exports, the customs declaration, completion date, packing list and costs follow the SAP SD invoice; the Import and Export Package closes the file in SAP.

FAQ

SAP S/4HANA for Fashion and SAP AFS questions

What is SAP S/4HANA for Fashion (FMS), and where does it go beyond SAP Retail?

SAP S/4HANA for Fashion, officially SAP S/4HANA for fashion and vertical business, runs retail, wholesale and manufacturing processes in one system. The FMS abbreviation comes from SAP Fashion Management Solution on ERP. It shares the SAP Retail foundation; the difference lies in seasons, segmentation, supply assignment, fashion contracts and garment production.

We run SAP AFS. How do we move to S/4HANA?

SAP AFS is not in the S/4HANA portfolio, and SAP points to FMS as the target. The S/4HANA migration cockpit has a dedicated approach for it: Direct Transfer - AFS moves articles, the material grid configuration class and distribution curves from the source AFS system to the target S/4HANA system. Processes are redesigned around seasons, segments and ARun.

Does segmentation need a separate licence?

According to SAP Help, segmentation is an always-on business function on premise (LOG_SEGMENTATION, RFM_SEGMENTATION), but it is not part of the standard S/4HANA enterprise licence. Without an FMS licence, segmentation needs a licence of its own. If you plan to split stock by channel, quality or origin, settle the licence position before design.

Does S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition cover fashion processes?

Yes, and the scope is growing. In SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (new name: SAP Cloud ERP), the first wave of demand and inventory segmentation arrived in 2608 with scope item 82X: distribution centres only, batch management mandatory, for stock and sales orders. Purchase orders and inbound deliveries are planned for 2702.

Does segmentation work with SAP PP/DS and SAP QM?

It does. With S/4HANA 2022, segmentation was connected to embedded SAP PP/DS through characteristic-dependent planning (CDP), and segment values travel to PP/DS as CDP values. The same release lets SAP QM vary inspection types and the tolerances of inspection characteristics by segment value.

Can fabric and garment production run in the same system?

SAP lists subcontracting and linking garment manufacturing with textile manufacturing among the production features of FMS. On the garment side, variant planned orders of a generic product are grouped into a master planned order, and the SAP Fiori app Manage Master Planned Orders - Fashion (F6090) converts them into a master production order.
