SAP Retail - S/4HANA Retail for Merchandise Management

SAP Retail, known in S/4HANA as SAP S/4HANA Retail for merchandise management, is where retailers running IS-Retail on ECC convert to. It manages stores and distribution centers as sites and products as articles; assortments decide what is sold where, replenishment how it gets there.

Current state

Moving from IS-Retail to S/4HANA Retail

  • SAP lists POS outbound via WP_PLU, bonus buys, markdown plans and sales forecasting as 'not strategic any more' (ID 104). On-premise rights ended on 31 May 2026; RISE keeps them to end-2033.
  • Rapid replenishment (WRP1R) has left that list: it was enhanced with S/4HANA 2023 FPS03 and moved into the perpetual scope. Classic WRP1 and multi-step replenishment are gone.
  • A generic article's variant-creating characteristics now come from a configuration class, values stored in IBase. Conversion runs pre-migration reports, a SUM step and a post-migration step.
  • Segmentation is only considered in aATP and MRP Live, and EWM does not see segment structures. The fashion Order Allocation Run (ARun) became part of aATP-based supply assignment.

Localization

Discounts, cash registers and e-Arşiv

  • Price before the discount

Since 1 August 2026 the reference price in a goods discount is the lowest price applied in the ten days before it starts. Keep price history by site and channel.

  • Cash register exemption

Taxpayers with more than 50 new-generation cash registers who meet the size tests and document every sale as e-Arşiv or e-Fatura can be exempted by the GİB.

    E-Archive
  • POS slip data on e-Arşiv

In an exempted store, the e-Arşiv invoice carries the bank and merchant number from the card terminal slip, so POS data has to deliver both fields.

FAQ

SAP Retail and IS-Retail: questions

What is SAP Retail? Is it the same as IS-Retail?

SAP Retail is the solution that runs a retailer's article, site, assortment, allocation and store sales processes inside S/4HANA; its S/4HANA name is SAP S/4HANA Retail for merchandise management. IS-Retail systems on ECC convert into it; some transactions are gone and some depend on compatibility rights.

Which SAP solution do fashion and textile companies use?

For vertical fashion businesses SAP names SAP S/4HANA for fashion and vertical business as the strategic solution; SAP AFS is not in the S/4HANA portfolio. Seasons, collections and themes, style-color-size logic, segmentation and supply assignment live there, and SAP lists linking garment and textile manufacturing as part of its scope.

How does store replenishment work in S/4HANA?

Classic WRP1 and multi-step replenishment are gone. Rapid replenishment (WRP1R) covers a similar scope with better performance and is in the perpetual scope; the other route is classic MRP (MD01). MRP Live cannot use a distribution center as a store's internal supply source and ignores structured articles and the promotion check.

How does POS data reach S/4HANA?

Store sales arrive through the POS inbound interface as IDocs: WPUUMS creates billing and article documents from sales data, WPUBON arrives per transaction, and WPER is the monitor. The POS Data Transfer and Audit module of SAP Customer Activity Repository collects the transactions, runs consistency checks and exposes them to analytics and consuming apps.

What does SAP recommend for retail sales forecasting?

Sales forecasting in S/4HANA Retail is in the compatibility scope and 'not strategic any more'. As the alternative SAP points to Unified Demand Forecast (UDF) in SAP Customer Activity Repository and also mentions the planned SAP Predictive Demand Planning. Company-level demand, S&OP and supply planning belong to SAP IBP.

Is retail available in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition?

Yes. SAP offers retail scope for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (new name: SAP Cloud ERP), and SAP Learning covers it under master data, requirements planning, store operations, store replenishment and promotions with merchandise distribution. Before choosing Public Edition, compare its scope items one by one with your own processes.
