SAP Integration Suite - Cloud Integration Platform
SAP Integration Suite is the integration platform SAP operates and offers as a subscription on SAP BTP. SAP CPI (new name: SAP Integration Suite, Cloud Integration) is the capability that designs and runs iFlows. SAP and non-SAP systems connect through prebuilt packages, adapters and connectors.
Process
An interface's path in SAP Integration Suite
Each step has an output: an interface request, a package, an iFlow, security material, a transport request and a message log.

Comparison
Three styles: API, event, flow
An interface can take one of three routes; we choose by call direction, number of receivers and the need to transform.
API Management
Request-reply, outside callers
- Proxy decouples API from back end
- Quota counts calls per application
- Spike Arrest shields the back end
- Developer Hub: products, subs, keys
- OAuth 2.0 or Verify API Key
Event Mesh, AEM
One event, many subscribers
- S/4HANA channel: /IWXBE/CONFIG
- Queues and topic subscriptions
- Event Mesh: one broker, 1 MB max
- Advanced Event Mesh: broker network
- Can be linked by Event Mesh Bridge
SAP CPI
Transform, route, B2B
- iFlow: adapters, mapping, Groovy
- Async decoupling with JMS queues
- IDoc (SOAP), XI, OData, SFTP, AS2
- EDI: Integration Advisor and TPM
- Partner Directory drives generic flows
Scope
Building blocks in SAP Integration Suite
Prepackaged integration content
For SuccessFactors-ERP or Ariba network scenarios, SAP's package of iFlows and value mappings is configured, not built.
Adapters and adapter packages
HTTP, SOAP, OData, SFTP, AS2, AS4, JMS, AMQP, IDoc, RFC built in; more adapter packages from Business Accelerator Hub.
Open Connectors
Prebuilt connectors to non-SAP cloud applications, kept current as those applications change their APIs.
B2B and EDI accelerators
X12 and EDIFACT type libraries in Integration Advisor, TPM agreement templates, EDI splitter, EDI-XML converters.
API packages, policy templates
Hub policy templates are copied and applied to proxies; SAP CPI (Cloud Integration) and SAP Gateway services are found.
Generic flows and reuse
Pipeline generic flows, Partner Directory; when a shared mapping or script collection changes, flows using it follow.
Current state
SAP Integration Suite plans, billing and limits
- Migration Assessment, the migration tool, MPL archiving and the AS2, JMS and Advanced Event Mesh adapters depend on your plan; SAP Note 2903776 gives the scope, Discovery Center the prices.
- SAP states that messages from a prepackaged artifact marked "Integration: SAP-to-SAP" are metered but not billed while it is unmodified; once the artifact is modified, they are billed.
- AI features such as iFlow generation, error resolution hints, Groovy optimization and MIG/MAG proposals are documented; SAP limits them to the Premium and Enhanced editions.
- Tenant monitoring data is kept for 30 days by default. Longer retention needs a CMIS 1.1 archive, where Persist step data that is encrypted in the tenant is stored unencrypted.
Localization
Türkiye: e-documents, banks, carriers
DRC package for Türkiye
SAP DRC's e-Invoice and e-Dispatch package is copied to the tenant. Credentials your provider issues per tax number go into security material, URLs into flows.
E-InvoiceBank connections: H2H and REST API
We connect SFTP via the SFTP adapter and a PGP step, REST APIs via the HTTP adapter with OAuth or client certificates. SAP Multi-Bank Connectivity covers EBICS and Swift.
OBI (Bank Account Statement)Carriers and freight
In our projects carrier services are REST or SOAP, called with the HTTP or SOAP adapter. For EDI, Integration Advisor has X12 204, 214 and EDIFACT IFTMIN, IFTSTA ready.
From the field
Field notes from SAP Integration Suite projects
- Edited standard packages stop getting updates. A modified package cannot take SAP's new version, and recopying the package wipes the change. Configuring parameters alone does not block updates. Changes go into a separate flow called from a customer exit via ProcessDirect.
- Old complex scenarios need simplifying. Old scenarios and mappings are analysed, then simplified or redesigned. The analysis often shows that many running integrations put an unnecessary load on the systems and carry data flows that no longer serve a purpose.
- Spike Arrest is mistaken for a client quota. Spike Arrest keeps no counter and is not distributed across servers; it protects the back end from bursts. Per-application limits belong in a Quota policy, applied to a client identified by OAuth or an API key.
- A separate iFlow is copied for every partner. An agreement activated in Trading Partner Management is pushed to the Partner Directory, and generic flows read that partner's parameters at runtime. A new partner usually means a new agreement, not a new iFlow.
FAQ
SAP Integration Suite: common questions
What is SAP Integration Suite, and where does SAP CPI fit in?
SAP Integration Suite is the integration platform SAP operates in the cloud. SAP CPI (Cloud Integration) is one of its capabilities, alongside API Management, Integration Advisor, Trading Partner Management and Migration Assessment. Each capability is activated when you need it. For event-driven integration, Advanced Event Mesh is added with a separate subscription.
Is SAP Integration Suite useful without any SAP product?
Yes. SAP describes SAP CPI (Cloud Integration) as connecting applications with other SAP and non-SAP apps, and a tutorial on SAP's developer site has a tenant read data from a non-SAP application only. HTTP, SOAP, SFTP or AS2 adapters do not care whether the other side is SAP. You need an SAP BTP account and an SAP Integration Suite subscription; a free plan is available.
Standard or pipeline approach for a PI/PO migration?
The migration tool in SAP Integration Suite offers two approaches. The standard approach builds one iFlow per scenario and covers synchronous flows, with error handling as a stub. The pipeline approach puts many asynchronous scenarios on generic flows and Partner Directory entries: built-in restart, shared JMS queues, one XI and IDoc endpoint.
Who runs Edge Integration Cell, and what does it need?
Edge Integration Cell processes the payload in a cluster on your network; design and monitoring stay in the cloud. Per SAP's operating model the customer sets it up and runs it: the Kubernetes cluster, a PostgreSQL or SAP HANA database for production, a Redis, Valkey or HANA data store and a load balancer; the HANA license is not included. One cluster holds one installation.
How do we connect S/4HANA Cloud through SAP Integration Suite?
Every API of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (new name: SAP Cloud ERP) belongs to at least one communication scenario. The connection is opened with a communication arrangement based on that scenario; the purchase order API, for instance, is in SAP_COM_0053. The Details tab of the API on SAP Business Accelerator Hub shows which scenario you need.
Should e-Invoices go to GİB directly or through a private integrator?
GİB offers e-Invoicing three ways: its portal, your own IT system integrated with GİB, or a private integrator. Our projects show two models: SAP Integration Suite produces the UBL-TR document and passes it on, or the integrator converts its own format to UBL-TR; status comes from polling its service. Negzel's e-document products are another option.
