SAP TRM - Treasury and Risk Management
SAP TRM handles the FX, money market, securities and derivative deals a company closes with its banks, from capture to accounting, and measures currency, interest rate and counterparty risk. Each deal is tracked as a treasury position in a separate valuation area for every accounting principle.

Current state
SAP TRM in S/4HANA: changes and licenses
- Exposure Management 1.0 is technically disabled in S/4HANA, with 2.0 as its successor. SAP offers no standard migration tool and expects 2.0 to be set up before conversion (Note 2340804).
- Accruals and deferrals run only through the central TPM44 function; ACCR01 to ACCR07 are gone. Correspondence Framework is the only correspondence option, and SAPScript support has ended.
- The yield curve framework is always active in S/4HANA. FTBB_YC_MIGRATE partly automates the move from classic settings; until it is done, TPM60 cannot calculate net present values.
- SAP lists 1WV (debt and investment), 1X1 (FX risk) and 1X3 (rate derivatives) as separately licensed scope items. Under RISE, TRM is its own service, metered on total treasury positions.
Localization
Türkiye: reporting and FX risk
Hedge accounting under TFRS 9
TFRS 9 leaves designating a hedging relationship to the entity. SAP's automated designation is built for IFRS 9 and US GAAP and works per valuation area of the deal.
FX position reporting to TCMB
Companies designated by the Central Bank report transactions affecting their FX position on a data form, prepared under VUK, TFRS or BOBİ FRS rules.
From the field
SAP TRM lessons from the field
- FX rate files with decimal commas fail. Import Market Data (F2610) expects a dot as decimal separator and treats commas as invalid data, with a limit of 1000 records per file. Convert templates saved from Turkish Excel before upload.
- Forwards do not show up as hedges. If the hedging classification, and the hedge request ID where there is one, are missing from the deal's Administration tab, the Hedge Management Cockpit cannot match the deal. Make these fields part of front office training.
- Bank confirmations arrive by email. Correspondence Framework matches SWIFT MT300 and MT320 confirmations to deals automatically. For counterparties without SWIFT, set up email, file or print channels, and choose the channel per counterparty early.
- Bank guarantees live in a spreadsheet. In TRM, bank guarantees (FTRTBG01) and letters of credit (FTRTLC01) are entered as financial transactions. SAP lists Bank Guarantee Management (2NZ) as separately licensed, so weigh it against your volume.
FAQ
SAP TRM: frequently asked questions
What is SAP TRM, and where does it sit next to SAP FSCM?
SAP TRM (Treasury and Risk Management) is a subarea of SAP's Treasury Management solution area, component FIN-FSCM-TRM. It covers debt and investment management and financial risk management. Cash position and liquidity forecasting stay in the cash and liquidity management side of SAP FSCM; the two components are integrated.
Is the Credit Risk Analyzer the same as SAP Credit Management?
No. The Credit Risk Analyzer measures counterparty default risk on financial transactions and sets limits for banks, financial institutions and brokers. Credit limits for customers buying on terms belong to SAP Credit Management and are checked on sales documents.
Does SAP TRM need an extra license?
On premise, SAP lists Debt and Investment Management (1WV), Foreign Currency Risk Management (1X1) and Interest Rate Derivatives Management (1X3) as scope items that require additional licenses. Under RISE, SAP S/4HANA Cloud for treasury and risk management is a separate service, metered on total treasury positions in blocks of 100 million euros.
Will our ECC Exposure Management data move to S/4HANA?
Not by itself. Exposure Management 1.0 is technically disabled in S/4HANA, and there is no standard migration tool to 2.0. SAP recommends setting up 2.0 before conversion and loading the data as if it came from another system; plan the 2.0 configuration as a work package of its own.
Is in-house banking part of TRM?
It is a separate component. In S/4HANA, in-house banking is a capability embedded in advanced payment management: subsidiaries hold internal accounts, interest terms and limits are defined, and statements come out as camt.053. SAP lists both (4MT, 6BP) as separately licensed scope items; TRM itself integrates with In-House Cash.
Can a loan from a shareholder be managed in TRM?
TRM is designed for B2B deals between the company and banks, financial institutions and brokers; assigning a natural person as business partner raises error TI 031. If you handle retention and deletion of personal data with your own measures, the message can be switched off; otherwise keep such loans outside TRM.
